Sunshine Therapy Dogs has had an amazing start to the year! Our programs in Toronto and Durham are humming along, with our dedicated volunteers – both two-legged and four-legged, bringing much happiness, especially during these winter months. Beyond the GTA, we continue to grow, having already engaged Program Directors in York, Peel and Halton. We now set our sights westward (and northward): Welcome to our new Program Directors in Hamilton-Niagara (Nataly), Guelph (Lainie), Waterloo region (Amy), London (Elizabeth) and Barrie (Jess)! We are now actively recruiting volunteers in these areas and also looking for potential clients.
We have already hosted our first assessment in Guelph, which was a resounding success. The Guelph Mercury Tribune came out to observe us in action – you can see the photos and read the story here! We will be looking to conduct assessments in all of the regions as we head into spring, beginning visits soon after.
This expansion allows us to touch more lives in a positive way, ensuring that those in need have access to these therapeutic visits. In every community we enter, there are always people who will benefit from the comfort of engaging with a friendly dog. While there may be many things in our world that are outside of our control, choosing to volunteer with us – or request a visit – is sure to bring a smile, lighten an emotional load and just make the world a little brighter. And what friendly dog doesn’t want all the pets!
