It feels like it has been a while since we have had a real taste of winter in southern Ontario – at least around the GTA! Some folks love the snow – they enjoy winter sports like skiing and skating; some simply enjoy the quiet beauty of taking a walk in the freshly fallen snow. Others find apres-ski more enjoyable (minus the “ski”!) If you have a dog in your life, there are some breeds that can’t get enough of the snow – Keeshonds, Huskies and Bernese Mountain dogs and other winter-loving breeds – are built for this weather and you’re hard-pressed to bring them indoors when the snow is calling them. Other breeds, like my English Bulldogs, are content to stay indoors in front of the fireplace. You can almost hear them grumbling when they are forced to go outside to answer the call of nature, plowing their way through the chest deep snow.
For many of our friends and neighbours, winter can be a lonely time of the year. The snow and cold can conspire to keep us away from the people we love and the activities we enjoy. Still, a good old Canadian snowfall can bring folks outdoors as they dig out; it can also bring out the best of who we are – helping a neighbour shovel their driveway, clearing our sidewalks so that everyone can walk safely. We here at Sunshine Therapy Dogs are also active doing visits with our pups. So while the weather may bring us down, a visit with one of our dogs brings sunshine to even the most gloomy day.
We would LOVE for you to join us – whether you have a Pomeranian in Peel or a Doodle in Durham; a Keeshond in Kitchener or a Great Dane in Guelph; a Labrador in London or a Husky in Hamilton; a Basset Hound in Barrie or a Pointer in Peterborough; a Yorkshire Terrier in York or a Havanese in Halton – we want you! Big or small, if you have a friendly dog and want to bring a little sunshine to your community, reach out to us!
